Description
A printed collection of over 60 traditional tunes from the mountainous Southeastern U.S., including music featured on ‘The Piper in the Holler‘. The book includes melodies from ballads, songs, breakdowns, marches, gospel hymns and shape-note hymns. This music is closely linked to the traditions of Scotland, Ireland, and England, as most early settlers to the region emigrated from the British Isles (in particular the ‘Scots-Irish’ or ‘Ulster Scots’).
Jim –
This is my favorite pipe-music book in my collection. This is partly because of the beautiful tunes, but also partly because it’s just a good read. So many great little bits of history mixed throughout. When I first got the book, I’d sit down to learn a tune and just end up reading for a half hour!
