Description

A printed collection of over 60 traditional tunes from the mountainous Southeastern U.S., including a number of tunes featured on ‘The Piper in the Holler‘ (and two of those featured on ‘The Birds’ Flight‘). The book includes melodies from ballads, songs, breakdowns, marches, gospel hymns and shape-note hymns. This music is a natural fit for Scottish-style pipes, as it is most closely linked to the traditions of the ‘Scots-Irish’, or ‘Ulster Scots’ (with considerable influences from Ireland, England, and especially West Africa, among others).

**August 2022 update: There is now a free, downloadable four-page supplementary PDF for this collection, containing important revisions and amendments to the original publication’s historical, informational, and musical discussions.  This supplement can be downloaded for free by clicking here.  It is also now included in the back of any new purchase of the collection.**

This is my favorite pipe-music book in my collection. This is partly because of the beautiful tunes, but also partly because it’s just a good read. So many great little bits of history mixed throughout. When I first got the book, I’d sit down to learn a tune and just end up reading for a half hour!
