$7.00

A contemporary arrangement of a folk hymn collected in western Ethiopia, for four Highland bagpipes (or other pipe ensemble).

Description

A contemporary arrangement of a folk hymn collected in western Ethiopia. (Pronounced “yay-Zus Yah jah-Lah-lay Koh”) This demanding piece includes non-traditional tunings, creative counter-melodies, and rich harmonies. Written as part of a master’s thesis on extended techniques for the Highland bagpipe, and featured on PlanetPipe.com in 2005 and the Manawatu Pipe Band’s ‘Twelve Thousand Miles’ album. [NB: This tune is typeset in the key of D-modal and requires the use of a C-natural. For chanters that do not have C-natural keys or an extra C-natural soundhole, this note may be produced using ‘forked’ fingering and/or by applying a piece of tuning tape over the majority of the C-soundhole.]

Audio sample from the recording for the master’s thesis, featuring Highland pipes with a D-baritone drone adaptation (an adaptation which is not required):
